And two weeks have FLOWN by
And what have we been up to?
Well Kimberly has been busy finding a new job!
I am going to pester her to post more details about it :-)
Other than that things have been pretty quiet...I had another visit to Vancouver for work, we are trying to get an answer from my Superannuation manager about how to transfer my Australian funds to Canada so that we can then use it as part of the deposit for a townhouse. I was hooked up to a little machine overnight to see if I have sleep apnea...hopefully this time they can get a reading from the machine!
Other than that it has been pretty quiet and has given us an opportunity to rearrange the house...so if you have not seen our place for a while you HAVE to act surprised when you come visit.
Now to pester Kimberly to post all the fun parts of her new job...

It's not so much that I was busy finding a new job as that I was lucky enough to have a wonderful opportunity drop in my lap.
A week ago, the manager of my ministry's policy branch dropped in to see my manager, and asked if she had anyone who would be good in an entry level policy analyst/grant administrator role. My manager, who is a wonderful supportive person, suggested me. The next day I had an interview, and now, a week later, I'm starting the new job day after tomorrow. It's very exciting.
It's not a permanent position, but as long as they are happy with my work and I am happy working there it will almost certainly become one. The money is the same as my old job for now, but it will improve. The job looks really challenging, and interesting, and I'll probably get some opportunities to use my french, which is neat.
One of the things I'm really excited about is that policy analysis in government is really all about identifying problems, researching everything about them and the potential solutions, and then making recommendations. I love that problem solving aspect; I like to know that at the end of the day what I've done will make a positive difference for someone, somewhere.
Apparently I haven't had that beaten out of me yet.
This is also a first for me in that this is the first time I've left a job that I really would have been happy continuing in. I enjoyed working in corporate writing services, my coworkers were wonderful, my boss was great, and I was still in a position to learn a lot and to be challenged by my job. This new job is MORE of a challenge, and it certainly has a LOT more room for advancement, but I still feel a bit ambivalent about leaving my old one.
Which really, is a nice change. It tells me that I'm moving TOWARDS something good, rather than simply AWAY from something that wasn't, and I'm pretty happy about that.
Yayay! More info, now! It's time for another work update and life update!
